This piece is about creating my own oasis as a queer person in a world that sees our community as disgusting. The corpse lily itself evokes a sense of beauty that is nontraditional and striking, yet none desire to get too close due to its scent of decay. It has become a fantastic metaphor for me to describe queerness in today's atmosphere. That being said, this piece is less about a commentary on where we are as a society and more about celebrating the community. We can see the beauty within ourselves even if others are repelled. We attract each other and we support each other. We have made our own  oasis.

We find Ourselves to be Beautiful
